It is not bound with myth, politics, tradition or current fads. Ephemeral Light. Light that is transitory. Dappled shade, wind, moving clouds, rain and pollinators buzzing around flowers. These create an image where the light and movement can change the whole image from one moment to the other. The human eye is capable of extraordinary precision and color dissemination. It can differentiate between about 10 million colors and is possibly capable of detecting a single photon. The images I capture are ones that I would like to see connect or re-connect people with the beauty of earth. Those images that delight the eyes and awaken the senses.

Cave Paintings In the recesses of caves, people begin to decorate the rock face with an important theme in their daily lives, the bison and reindeer which are their prey as Ice Age hunters. Cave paintings: from 31,000 years ago, Prehistoric cave paintings have been discovered in many parts of the world, from Europe and Africa to Australia. Africa has some of the earliest paintings and rock engravings to have been securely dated. Nearly 30,000 years old, they are discovered in 1969 on the rock face in a cave near Twyfelfontein in Namibia. But the most numerous and the most sophisticated of prehistoric paintings are on the walls of caves in southwest France and northern Spain. In the United States prehistoric images from indigenous tribes in southern states date back over 6,000 years. In Mexico images dating back 5,000 years have been found. About 150 painted caves have been discovered in this region. Perhaps the most startling of all are the paintings in Chauvet cave, found as recently as 1994 and thought to be as much as 31,000 years old. But far better known, as yet, are the ones of Altamira and Lascaux. Fine Art I have always struggled with this defination so I will defer to Wikipedia. In European academic traditions, fine art is art developed primarily for aesthetics or beauty, distinguishing it from applied art, which also has to serve some practical function, such as pottery or most metalwork. Historically, the five main fine arts were painting, sculpture, architecture, music, and poetry, with performing arts including theatre and dance. Today, the fine arts commonly include additional forms, such as film, photography, video production/editing, design, sequential art, conceptual art, and printmaking. One definition of fine art is "a visual art considered to have been created primarily for aesthetic and intellectual purposes and judged for its beauty and meaningfulness, specifically, painting, sculpture, drawing, watercolor, graphics, and architecture. In that sense, there are conceptual differences between the fine arts and the applied arts. As originally conceived, and as understood for much of the modern era, the perception of aesthetic qualities required a refined judgment usually referred to as having good taste, which differentiated fine art from popular art and entertainment. The word "fine" does not so much denote the quality of the artwork in question, but the purity of the discipline according to traditional Western European canons. This definition originally excluded the applied or decorative arts, and the products of what were regarded as crafts. I have not a camera that flies. (thinking about it though) These images are from Google Maps (copyrighted) and NASA (uncopyrighted). Google parses maps from several satellites into one image so there are sometimes differences in color and sharpness. The time of the images shot, cloudiness, pollution and other weather factors will influence an image also. Aerial images are fascinating to me. No matter if they are just of terra firma or places that are populated with living people. The textures, lines and colors are amazing and can be looked at for hours. I was never into maps drawn from the surface but aerial maps are fascinating. None are for sale, although NASA's are royalty free and many times the originals are available for downloading. They even have galleries to upload the ones you edit to.
